The Problem

Data Ownership

infrastructure is broKEN

Problem

Many households in Latin America, South Asia and Africa who are underbanked (eg: lower-income households, less-educated households, etc) find it difficult to have convenient access to cash loans at affordable rates without any credit history, leading to time-consuming, complex and costly loan terms.

Solution

Drumwave dWallet is a mobile app that gives users true ownership of their personal data. It enables them to see it, manage it, control it, and monetize it through ethical and anonymous data sharing.

Design Approach

Goals & Objectives

Data Ownership

  • Let users see and control who has access to their data

  • Enable users to manage relationships with businesses directly

  • Allow users to revoke data sharing with businesses or third parties at any time

Data Monetization

  • Connect users with businesses seeking data access ethically and anonymously

  • Enable users to receive monetary rewards in exchange for consenting to data use

Project Timeline

Defining the product strategy

The overall strategy is to create a data ownership ecosystem that helps users take control of how their data is used by businesses, ads, and third parties.

Drumwave enables a two-way value exchange , allowing businesses to ethically access user data while sharing monetary rewards with users in return.

Drumwave & User

Challenges

▸ Users have no visibility into how their personal data is collected, used, or shared by the businesses they interact with daily

▸ Existing data privacy tools are complex and technical, most users don't know where to start or what they're agreeing to

▸ The concept of data monetization is new and unfamiliar, users are skeptical and need education before they trust any platform with their data

▸ Businesses lack a compliant, ethical way to access consented user data leading to opaque data brokers and third party sharing without user knowledge

User success stories

"I finally feel like I have control over my data. I can see exactly who is using it and actually get something back in return."

— Gael, Brazil

"The app made it simple to understand what data I was sharing. I didn't expect it to be this easy to set up" - Albert, USA

My Reflections

This was one of the most complex and rewarding challenges of my career. Designing an abstract concept like data ownership to feel simple and trustworthy for everyday users across two very different markets pushed me to think differently.

I learned to balance user trust with business viability, collaborate across cultures, and design with confidence in a space where the product category itself was entirely new

I specialize in crafting exceptional digital experiences to help the users achieve their goals.
